Do I look beautiful? Do the people notice me? Am I worth the admiration? Do I really need to look good?

I too have been with such sort of questions at many occasions in the past. Hey, don't consider this as something feministic as males to have such sort of questions and they too care a lot for their physical looks. Okay, so let's come out of the gender here and let's concentrate on the question, "Do the physical looks really matter so much?"

Yes, they do. I will try to prove my point and you are free to question my explanation if you have contradictory arguments.

Ideally everyone should be identified through one's character than the dress, but if we be practical it's not the way it happens in front of us. Frankly speaking I've not met any of a person in my life who doesn't give importance to the dress or dress sense. A few show it openly while the other keep on pretending that they are okay with whatever they look and they don't need to impress the people through their physical being.

Why do people need to comb looking at the mirror? Why does one check whether the colour or dress fits or suits or not? It's just to check whether one looks presentable or not. And is there anyone who doesn't feel good when complemented fir the looks by the near and dear ones? I feel it's the right of every individual to feel blessed with such complements by their most loved persons in their live. But yes that looks uncomfortable or like a burden when it comes from the stranger or crooked people.

Beauty lies in the eyes of beholder. Right it is. We have seen many girls who have been accepted by their loved ones even after getting their face ruined due to burns or any other accidents. But do you really think that they need to expose their burns to the beloved people? There are many ways to heal them or conceal them to look presentable. And we have many role models today who defied the tag of burnt face by presenting themselves with the make up of full confidence and extraordinary smile becoming the inspiration for other depressed and disheartened ones.

Again I'm not in favour of any ornaments or make up materials but just to be happy and contented with our looks. Yes, we don't need someone else to remind us that how we look, but tell me honestly, don't you ever smile at your good looks in the mirror??

I didn't use to do that in the past but since I realised that how my look matters and how it brings a specific kind of aura around me I too started to groom and admire myself.

In the past (decades ago, as for a decade I follow this) I never cared how I looked or what people thought about my looks. But gradually I shifted to this mindset where I believe that looks are really really important and essential when you are out of your comfort zone, either in school, colleges, offices or any public place. As you are not just you but representing the identity that you really are.

Similar uniform of the students represent that each and ever student is to be treated the same despite their differences. Many offices and schools have this for their employees too. So presenting ourselves also mean to have organised gestures, and serenity on the face.

The institute where I'm working is the India's best coaching institute, which is giving the best results every year. No no, don't consider me as the contributor of its success. I don't stand anywhere on those grounds. Teachers like me are just nothing, as only science and maths teachers can give the toppers in IIT or NEET, we language teachers are mere dummy teachers nothing else.

We have two uniforms, one with a jacket and the other with a beige coloured duppatta, where in the former we look like a D Mart employee, in the latter we are confuged for a road cleaner. People identify ourselves with what we wear. However poor a person may be but if he wears suit, he is to be judged as a rich fellow. Again you can say that we don't need to prove others that what we are, let the people be judgemental. But dear, when we are out we are not just with our own mindset or rules but with the rules of the society and we need to follow them,whether we want or not.

No one is going to punish you on road for whatever you have worn or how dressed is your hair, but once you are allotted with some job, you are under observance. This is the reason, at many work places their are norms for proper dressing.

Every colour or dress gives you a new identity. I see the difference myself when I look into the mirror in different attire. Every outfit has its own significance. Like sitting in a pooja in jeans instead of a traditional dress looks absurd, similarly going for a fun filled party with friends in saree will not be less than a joke. So I think it's very important to understand the requirement of every occasion.

Being honest I can confess here that I've always been a carefree lady in my life, who never tried to check how she looked. But today I've changed a lot. I groom myself and then when I look into the mirror, I admire myself, I feel more confident. It's not my colour or beauty, it's the charm that is brought through grooming and that's the requirement for any of the presentation.

From my personal experience, people are more attentive when I am presentable. And the same goes with my attention. Most of the time either on the social media or in general I too check with the physical appearance only as we can't get into the depth in just one go. And that's the initial process of filtering.

Enchanting English

Third most spoken language in the world!!

We know the reason how this language has been widely spread all around.

It's reached in our genes standing for more than hundred of years in our locality and we feel it as our own language despite having several other languages beside us.

Naturally, it being the language of our leaders we feel the same leadership quality within us when we use this language. This fact can be proven with the pride of the people who are able to speak fluently in this language.

No doubt, I too love English. I'm a great fan of the metaphysical poet John Donne, I love to read Blake, Keats, Yeats, Bernard Shaw, O Henry, Saki, Rudyard Kipling and many more; especially the Indian English writers like Kamla Das, R K Narayan, Ravindranath Thakur, Aurobindo Ghosh, Vikram Seth, Sudha Murthy,.......  who make me breathless to read them in just one go.

But here it's not about my taste or any individual's particular taste. It's all about camouflaging ourselves to look like the authoritative.

I too didn't start loving English without any reason. The love for this foreign language too has a story.

I had been an ardent follower of Premchand (Kalam ka Sipahi) in my childhood. I have read almost all of his novels and short stories, though I have forgotten about almost all of them today. I loved to read Nagarjun baba. Mahadevi Verma and Subhadra Kumari Chauhan were my idols. Dinkar ji and Gupt ji were like Gods of poetry for me. Everything changed when I had to choose a subject for my graduation.

I did my graduation from IGNOU. I had to choose my major subject. Science I had left long back as it was not possible for me to go for practicals and also I hated science for a while as I failed in that by not qualifying for PMT.

Language was my secondary dream that I had to choose for. Hindi looked a bit tough to me, also I recalled a few words of my hindi teachers how depressed they were in the school because of their lowest salary. Though they had to do the same work like other teachers, sometimes more as well but they were not paid accordingly. I decided my future and chose to go for Chaucer, Milton, Shakespeare and Wordsworth than for Bharatendu, Pant, Prasad,  or Nirala.

Modern Educaional System

I'm very sure that you all might have received that most circulated message on teacher's day, which says that all the professions see their progress in the problem of its customers except the teachers whose profit is in the enrichment of its employers. Yes, here employers are the students.

No need to explicit that point as you may get it through the words itself. What I wish to highlight today is the situation of the educational system of the current generation.

I've worked in many renowned schools in my ten years of teaching experience that I kept on changing every year.

Yes, of course like any other professions salary was one ground, based on which I kept on grabbing the higher opportunities, but that was not the only motivation. I have always been passionate about teaching. I still remember my fourth standard English teacher, Mr Sahji sir, how fascinated I was to his teaching skills! And then I was inspired of almost all the teachers in my Secondary school, though I carry a little bit of teaching character of my hindi teacher, Anshu didi.

My passion for teaching wasn't fulfilled in any of the schools where I worked. I was bound to a syllabus and pattern and the innovations in teaching were not welcomed at any of the teaching institutes. Even if the showcase of innovation was respected occasionally, freedom to implement that was strictly prohibited without going through a long round process.

Moreover, neither the students nor their parents have been supportive to our endeavours, where we wanted the kids to make self dependent rather than getting them spoon fed, the parents wanted their kids to just feed with their golden spoons. Unlike our parents, the parents of today wish to give their kids everything without causing any pain or troubles to their kids. They want their kids to experience all those things that they couldn't access in their childhood. They just want them to enjoy each and every luxury that they have earned from their struggles, rather than teaching them the most significant lesson of life,  'Struggling'.

And to get that they work day and night away from their kids spending their time of togetherness to earn the so called happy lifes of their kids.

How can they forget that if they needed some motivation to achieve something in their life the same sort of motivation is required for the welfare and development of their kids as well. They are making their kids feeble and lifeless taking away the various motivations from them.

I'm no more teaching in any formal school but in a well known coaching class, which is known to create geniuses every year. It has broken almost all the records of all the existing coaching classes of India. And when comes to quality, no other institute here can compete with that today at least in Mumbai.

I'm not any significant fellow there as I don't teach science or maths to make geniuses but I just train the students to speak and write well.

I know it very well that I'm not perfect but still I'm proud of myself as I do my work with full devotion. I may have just a drop of the knowledge ocean, but I try my best to shower that petty drop around myself. My students are my life driving force. Teaching is not just my profession but the motivation of my life, through which I learn everyday a new lesson.

Though I want to make my children mature enough to decide what's good or bad for them, I wish their parents may also help them in achieving this. Pampering without any reason and giving excuses for the failures will suppress the potential of their children and they will always keep on saying, "My child can do this but he isn't doing!"

आज से दस साल पहले जब मैं मुम्बई आई थी मुझे और कुछ का तो नहीं पर मुम्बई लोकल में सफर करने का बड़ा मन होता था।

मुम्बई लोकल में गेट पर खड़े होकर बाहर के नज़ारे निहारने का मज़ा ही कुछ और है। हमने भी सहयात्रियों से सीखा है कि चाहे हर स्टेशन पर उतरना पड़े उस गेट वाले गोल्डेन सीट को कभी हाथ से नहीं जाने देना चाहिए। अपनी लड़ाई तो बस उसी फुट बोर्ड के पास की एक फीट ज़गह की होती है। जिस दिन वो हमें नसीब में मिल जाता फिर क्या कहने।

कल ही की बात है, हम उसी एक फीट की जगह पर खड़े होकर रात की ठीठोली करती ठंडी हवा का लुत्फ उठा रहे थे। और हाँ कान में ठोपी भी लगी थी। उषा उत्थुप का 'चुरा लिया' सुने जा रहे थे।अजीब मस्ती थी। उस ज़गह पर खड़े होकर ऐसा अनुभव होता है कि सारी धरती हमारी ही है।हमारे लिये ही सारे फूल पौधे खुशबू और ये रंगीन हंसीन नज़ारें हैं।

ट्रेन में अधिक भीड़ न थी इसलिये स्टेशन आने के ठीक दो मिनट पहले हम खिसक लिए ताकि पीछे वालों को उतरने की जगह मिल सके। अब तो एक भाई साहब की भाषणबाजी शुरू हो गई। वो कह रहे थे, "महिला डब्बे में क्यूँ नहीं चढ़ते ये लोग। आ जाते हैं दरवाजा रोकने।" मैंने कहा,  "जनाब, अब औरत होने का ये मतलब तो नहीं कि हम कोई मज़े न ले, सब आपको ही मिले।" हमारी थोड़ी कड़कदार आवाज़ है, शिक्षक जो ठहरे। महाशय को अचंभा इस बात पे हुआ कि हमने सुना कैसै क्योंकि हमारे कानों में तो ठोपी लगी थी।उनके अचरज पे हमने कहा, "जी, मुझे सुनाई देता है।कॉलेज का जमाना कब का खतम हो गया मेरा।"

अजीब बदसलुकी है, वो चाहें तो पूरी भीर के साथ दरवाजे पर खड़े रहें और स्टेशन आने पे हिले भी न पर औरते सिमटी रहे बस।

आज मैंने भी गाली दी। बस दिल की तस्सली को।

बारिश में मुंबई लोकल में सफर करना किसी भी खतरनाक और रोमांचक साहसिक कार्य से कम नहीं। भीड़ दुगुना और जो खुले दरवाजे होते हैं वो पूरे बंद।घूटन तो यूँ होती है कि लगता है किसी ने सामने के सारे अॉक्सीजन सोंख लिये हो। शरीर चारों ओर से बंधा होता है। अगर माथे पे खुजली हो रही हो तो बस सोच कर ही उसे खुजला सकते हैं। फिर भी जब तक ट्रेन चल रही होती है तब तक तो ज्यादा कुछ नहीं बस गाली गलौज ही चल रहा होता है, किसी को किसी की बैग लगती है तो किसी को पैर और बस गालियों का सिलसिला चलता रहता है। पर जैसे ही ट्रेन किसी स्टेशन पर रूकती है तो ऐसा लगता है कि किसी ने प्यास से मरते हुये के हाथ से घूँट भर पानी भी छीन लिया हो। उतरने वाले दो होते हैं और चढ़ने वाले दस। इस तरह हर स्टेशन पर आबादी बढ़ती जाती है और उसके साथ सफर का वाद विवाद भी।

तो हुआ यूँ कि कल रात हम (मैं, "मैं" की जननी 'अहम' का ही प्रयोगः करती हूँ) जनरल डब्बे की भीर देखकर महिला डब्बे में सवार हो गये। उम्मीद से कहीं कम भीर थी।वो ठस ठस भरी न थी। अंदर खड़े होने को जगह नसीब हो गयी। धीरे धीरे अपने मन मुताबिक वाले दरवाज़े के पास सरकते पहुँच भी गये। वहाँ एक महिला बड़े आराम से हवा खाती खड़ी थी। जब उन्होंने हमें हमारे बैग उनके बदन को लगने के लिये टोका तब हमें समझ आया कि वो कहीं की रानी हैं। उनके जैसे लोग ही पूरे ट्रेन पर अपना कब्जा करने को हम जैसे गाली गलौज से बचने वाले लोगों को डरा के रखते हैं। हमारे पीछे करीब पाँच महिलाये होंगी जिनके न जाने क्या क्या हमें लग रहे थे पर हमने उसे ही अपनी नियती मान ली थी।उस सामने वाली रानी मैडम जिनको हमारा बैग लग रहा था, उनसे तो हमने कुछ न कहा पर खुद को एक मजबूत दीवार की तरह बना के रखा, जिसे जितना भी ठोको वो आगे न जायेगा।

ट्रेन की देरी खलबली बढ़ा देती है। हमारी ट्रेन दस मिनट देर क्या हुयी, भीड़ खचाखच बढ़ती गयी। फिर भी सवार हो जाने की गुंजाइस थी। अंदर एक पूरा परिवार सामान के साथ दरवाजे पर ही खड़ा था। अब्बा ने उजली टोपी लगा रही थी और अम्मी बुड़के में खड़ी थी।दो बहुत ही प्यारी बच्चियाँ सामान पर बैठी अपने पिता के हाथों कुड़मुड़े खा रही थी। मैंने पूछा, "हमें भी खिलाओ।अकेले ही खाओगे।" उस नन्ही सी गुड़िया ने ये नहीं कहा, "तुम हिंदू हो, हम तुम्हें क्यूँ खिलाये," बल्कि उसने दोनो नन्हीं मुठ्ठियों में  कुड़मुड़े भड़कर मेरी तरफ बढ़ा दिये। मुझे तो बस उसकी प्यारी मुसकान चाहिये थी जो किसी के साथ कुछ बाँटने में स्वतः ही आ जाती है। बच्चे कितने पाक होते हैं न! एकदम खुदा की परछाई की तरह। उनकी सादगी, हर रीति रीवाज़, हर कड़वाहट भड़ी जातिवाद और हर तरह के विवादों से बिलकुल परे होती हैं।

कल ही की बात है, मैंने अपने फॉलोवर के लिस्ट में एक पाकिस्तानी को देखा। उसे तुरंत ब्लॉक करने ही वाली थी कि मेरी बेटी ने ऐसी बात की जो शायद उम्र बढ़ने की वजह से मुझे स्वयं समझ न आया। उसने बड़े ही सुलझे अंदाज में कहा, "मम्मा, सारे पाकिस्तानी आतंकवादी थोड़े ही न होंगे। हमारे देश में भी सारे अच्छे लोग तो नहीं हैं। आपकी सायकल तो यहीं चोरी हुयी न!" इस मासुमियत ने जैसे सोये प्यार और इंसानियत को फिर से जगा दिया। ठीक ही तो कहा उसने इस बात को तो ज्ञानी जन सदियों पहले कह गये: "वसुधैव कुटुंबकम!"

तो जब सारी धड़ती ही अपना परिवार है फिर ये चंद लकीड़े हमें कैसे तोड़ सकती हैं। कुछ कसाबों और ओसामाओं के चक्कर में हम अपने हर भाई बंधु से क्यूँ डरे। जिस प्यार और इंसानियत की बात हम जैसे जिश्म के परिपक्व लोगों को नहीं समझ आती इन मासूमों से सीखने की जरूरत है।

एक दो स्टेशन में ही भीड़ इतनी बढ़ गयी कि दस से ऊपर लोग दरवाजे पर लटकने लगे और वह नन्ही बच्ची भीड़ में रोती रही।

हम उसके लिये कुछ न कर सकते थे। जो आ रहा था कहीं से भी धक्के लगाये जा रहा था यह कहते हुये, "अरे, संभल कर। लेडिज भी चढ़ गयी है डब्बे में।" एक महाशय ने कह भी दिया, "दीदी, लेडिज डब्बे में जाना था, अभी तो वह खाली ही होगा।"

हमने कहा, "भाईसाहब, सुबह भाषण दे चुकी हूँ। आपको इतनी तकलीफ है तो पुरूष डब्बे के लिये अर्जी डाल दे पर जनरल को जनरल ही रहने दे।" फिर हमने बात को थोड़े हलके में मोड़ दिया।

कुड़ला में हमें उतड़ना था, हम उस रोती बच्ची को उतड़ता देख उसकी मदद को उसके पिताजी से उनका बैग ले लिये। बाहर निकलते हुये हमारे होठो पर भी वही मुस्कुराहट थी जो उस बच्ची ने कुछ पलों पहले हमें दी थी।

आज के मुंबई लोकल का अनुभव बहुत ही घृणास्पद रहा। आज के इस कटु अनुभव ने हमें ये सोचने पर मजबूर कर दिया कि उन स्त्रियों का क्या होता होगा जिन्हें जीते जी मौत मिल जाती है! मन तो करता है सभी कायर राक्षस जो किसी को बेआबरू करने की सोचते भी हैं उनको चुन चुन कर अपंग बना दूँ। सच कह रही हूँ, जो मॉम की देवी ने या दृश्यम के देवगन ने किया उसे हर जागरूक नागरिक को करना चाहिये।

सभी महिलायें स्वयं को इतना सशक्त कर ले, कि यदि कोई उन्हें या बेटियों को छूने की भी कोशिश करे तो उसका हाथ पैर तोड़कर उसके गोद में रख दे। संविधान भी हमें आत्म रक्षा की इजाजत देता है।

आज का वृतांत मुझे स्वयं को और भी सशक्त बनाने को विवश करता है।

आज मुंबई लोकल में काफी भीर होने के बावजूद भी मैंने अपने लिये जनरल डब्बे में एक जगह पकड़ ली। पर किसी बुजूर्ग और शातिर लफंगे ने कुछ ऐसा किया जो मुझे ऊपर से नीचे तक झकझोड़ गया।

आम तौर पर हम महिलायें इन बातों की जिक्र भी नहीं करती पर आप सबसे साझा करके शायद दिल को कुछ हल्का कर सकुँ।

तुरंत तो मैंने भी कुछ न कहा क्यूँकि गलती हमारी थी, हमने स्वयं भीर में उस डब्बे में सवार होकर यह खतरा मोल लिया था। ऐसा अनुभव भी तो कभी नहीं हुआ था। पर फिर हमसे चुप भी नहीं रहा हुआ, पर उस इंसान रूपी शैतान का नसीब तो देखिये, जब तक मैं कुछ कहती वह भीर में ओझल हो गया। फिर मैंने अपने आस पास खड़े नौजवानों से कहा, "ये बुढा इस उम्र में ऐसी हरकत कैसे कर सकता है? उम्र का लिहाज भी नहीं। भीर का फायदा उठाकर कुछ भी करने की चाह रखता है। एक दिन मेरे जैसी कोई औरत हाथ उठा देगी बुढे पर।"

जिस जवाब की अपेक्षा थी वही मिली और कुछ लोगों ने अपने चेहरे के भाव से ही मुझे गुनाहगार साबित कर दिया।

किसी ने कहा, "लेडिज डब्बे में जाना चाहिए न, इतनी भीर है इसमें किसी को स्पेशल ट्रीटमेंट तो नहीं दे सकते। भीर में इधर उधर तो लगती ही रहती है।"

मैंने तुरंत बड़े इत्मिनान से जवाब दिया, " जी, लग तो कहीं भी सकती है पर हमारे जांघ तक को पहुँचने के लिये कोई भी बाहरी धक्का काफी नही जब तक कि आपकी फितरत अपने हाथ को वही दिशा देने की हो।"

पर इस तरह मैं किस किस को सफाई देती फिरूँ। महिलाये स्वयं इस में भागिदार होने को तैयार नहीं हैं।

कल ही तो एक महिला वकील को अपने साथ जेनरल में चढा रही थी,वह कहती है, "अरे, इस डब्बे में क्यूँ? जब महिला डब्बा है तो पुरूष डब्बे में क्यूँ चढना?"

मैंने वही कहा जो हमेशा कहती हूँ, "इसमें कहीं न कहीं खड़े होने को जगह मिल जाती है जो कि महिला डब्बा में मुश्किल होती है।"

वह वकील कहती है, "यह तो गलत है न! जब महिला डब्बा में पुरूषों को आने की इजाजत नहीं तो पुरूष डब्बे में महिलायें कैसे सवार हो सकती हैं। ये तो बहुत ही गलत है।"

अब मुझे वो औरत सही गलत सीखा रही थी जिसके कारोबार में सही गलत तो कुछ नहीं होता, सब सच्ची झूठी सबूतों पर निर्भर करता है।

बस मैंने भी उसे उसके ही भाषा में कहा, "अच्छा, तो किधर लिखा है कि ये पुरूष डब्बा है?"

एक दो सहयात्रियों से पूछ भी लिया, "क्या ये डब्बा सिर्फ पुरूषों के लिये है? क्या इसमें महिलायें चढ़ जाये तो कोई अपराध है क्या?"

भाग्यवश सारे पुरूष जिनसे मैंने प्रश्न किया था वो मेरे पक्ष में बोले पर वकील साहिबा को संतुष्ट न कर पाये।

आज अपनी रोज की ट्रेन छूट गयी। अगली ट्रेन पंद्रह मिनट बाद की थी। कहीं बैठ जाने से बेहतर लगा कि प्लैटफार्म के ही कुछ चक्कर लगा लूँ। फिर क्या था, कान में लगायी तेज़ गाने की झंकार और चहलकदमी शुरू कर दी। हरेक कदम के साथ हरेक व्यक्ति को जाँचती परखती चली। हरेक के पास अपना अलग ही भाव था और उसके साथ छिपी थी उसकी अपनी कहानी। हर चेहरे पर एक नयी कहानी, मन का छोटा सा आईना चेहरे पर नज़र आ रही थी, जिनसे सभी इंतजार कर रहे लोगों के परेशानियों का अनुमान लगाया जा सकता था।

हरेक व्यक्ति परेशान! पर किसलिये?

फिर मैंने अपने भीतर झाँक कर देखने की कोशिश की। क्या मैं भी उनकी तरह परेशान हूँ?

इसका उत्तर मिलता उससे पहले ही एक छोटे से बच्चे को प्लैटफार्म के बीच में बैठकर बिसकीट खाते देखा। उसकी माँ पास ही गहरी नींद में सोयी थी। कितने ही सवाल जैसे अपने इर्द गिर्द मडराने लगे जिसका उत्तर मिलना नामुमकिन सा ही है।  कई बार प्रयास किया पर हताशा ही मिली।

एक खयाल आया कि और कुछ नहीं तो बस उस बच्चे को अपना थोड़ा सा समय ही दे दूँ। फिर वही उधेरबुन। बाकि लोग क्या सोचेंगे? वो क्या कहेंगे? जो लोग कुछ समय पहले अपने व्यक्तिगत परेशानियों से बोझिल होकर ट्रेन के इंतजार में थे सबको एक रोचक नजारा मिल जाता जिस पर कितनी बाते होतीं। वैसे मैं किसी के सोचने का सोचती ही नहीं। जो सही लगता है वही करती हूँ। तो वही किया जो सही लगा। दो चार चक्कर लगाते ही ट्रेन आ गयी और मैं ट्रेन में चढ़ गयी।

बस कुछ ही घड़ी में अपना गंतव्य आ जाता है। फिर भी जगह मिलने पर इत्मिनान से बैठ गयी मैं।

अगले ही स्टेशन पर एक औरत गोद में महिने भर के बच्चे को लेकर चढ़ी। उसने अपने बच्चे को खुद से बाँध कर रखा था। आते ही उसने एक नाम मात्र के झाड़ू को इधर उधर चलाया फिर अपना कटोरा हर किसी के आगे फैलाने लगी।

मैंने पहले तो उसे नजरअंदाज किया, फिर जब उसकी अँगुलियाँ बार बार मुझे छूकर जैसे अपना हिस्सा माँग रही थी, मैंने उसे जवाब देने की ठानी।

अपना तो रोज का सफर है, रोज ही ऐसे लोग दिखते हैं जो खुद को लाचार बताकर न जाने दिन भर में अपनी दर्द भरी कहानी के बलबूते पर न जाने कितना कमा लेते हैं। और मैंने तो सबूतों के साथ पाया है कि ये सारी कहानियाँ महज एक मनगढ़ंत कहानी होती है ताकि आने जाने वालों में दया की भाव जगाकर उनको थोड़ा पुण्य करने की लालच दी जाये।

खैर, वो तो अलग ही विषय हैं। मैं अपनी भूमिका पर लौटती हूँ।

मैं सीट से उठकर उस औरत के पास गयी। उसका नाम पूछा। नकली नाम कौन याद रखता है! उसने जब कहा कि वह लोगों के यहाँ बर्तन मलती है और आज काम न मिला इसलिये भीख माँगने आ गयी।  तब तो पक्का विश्वास हो गया कि वो भीखमंगा गैंग की होगी। मुंबई में बाईयों की रईसी तो मुंबई के बासिंदे ही जाने। वो भीख माँगेंगे?  जब पूछा कि कहाँ रहती है तो कुछ और बताया पर मेरे से डर कर अगले ही स्टेशन पर उस नन्हीं ही सी जान के साथ कूद गयी। और मैं बस भाषण ही देती रह गयी, शायद खुद की तसल्ली को।

आज कुछ 15/20 मिनट चलकर अपने गन्तव्य तक पहुँचना था। हमेशा की तरह गाना सुनकर चलती रही। गाने के साथ टहलने में हमें एक अलग ही आनंद मिलता है। आते जाते हर राही, हर वाहन व हर पंछी पर नज़र दौड़ाते हुये बढ़ती जा रही थी। इसी बीच कुछ खयाल भी अपने मन में दस्तक दिये जा रहे थे। उनमें से कोई गुदगुदाने वाली बात जहन में थम सी गयी और मैं मुस्कुरा पड़ी। एक तो मनभावन गीत और उस पर से कोई मिठी सी याद। आह!वो तो किसी बेजान में भी जैसे जान भर दे।

मैं यूँ ही मुस्कुराती चलती रही, चन्द पलों के लिये तो जैसे मैं उस लम्हे को फिर से जी आयी। जब होश में आयी तो देखा कि सामने से कुछ राही गुजर रहें हैं। मेरी मुस्कुराहट बरकरार ही रही। ज्यों की त्यों। मेरी मुस्कुराहट तो सबके लिये एक सी ही थी पर सबके उत्तर बिलकुल ही अलग थे। किसी ने मुस्कुरा कर अभिनंदन किया, कोई ताज्जुब हो देखता निकल गया, किसी ने अपने नज़रों को ही फेर लिया, कोई इस निगाह से देखे जैसे मैंने कोई वाहियात हरकत की हो, किसी ने ईशारे से अभिनंदन किया या आशिष देता निकला और कुछेक ने तो पागल भी समझा होगा।

यह उदाहरण अपने बच्चों और साथियों को ग्रहण बोध (perception)का सही मतलब समझाने को मुझे बहुत ही सही लगा। हम क्या कर रहे हैं वो सिर्फ और सिर्फ हम स्वयं जानते हैं, सामने वाला कोई भी अन्य उसे हमारे नजरिये से नहीं देख या समझ सकता। फिर भी हम रोजमर्रा की जिंदगी में इस बात पर सबसे अधिक ध्यान देते हैं कि "लोग क्या कहेंगे या लोग क्या सोचेंगे!"

लोग कुछ भी कहे या सोचे, अपने अंतर्मन को ये पता होना चाहिये कि हम क्या कर रहे और क्यूँ कर रहे।
